This overnight backpack trip was all part of a very large Utah vacation that included visiting several different parks. This was the first of three backpacking trips on this entire vacation. I’m from the East so hiking in the West is always a really incredible change in scenery. I have hiked several parts of the John Muir trail but this was the first time backpacking in Utah. This turned out to be a great hike! It was just an overnight but everyone in my group really enjoyed it.
This trail definitely added an element to my other West backpacking areas like Wyoming or California. Great place and I’d hike it again.
We hiked end to end so one of our vehicles was parked at the Chinle Trailhead and the other we staged at the Coalpits Wash Trailhead.
We had Campsite 1 – West Temple View Camp reserved which was about 100 yards off the Chinle trail. It was plenty big for 5 tents and worked out quite well.
Total distance for this hike was approximately 11.6 miles.
I wore my Oboz Bridger Low hiking shoes and they worked quite well. They don’t have Vibram soles which is a little bit of a sacrifice for traction but this trail is fairly flat and I didn’t think I would miss my Merrell Moab’s with Vibram soles.
Here are some maps for this trail: CHINLE TRAIL MAPS
I had my Nemo Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pad for this hike. As always, it worked great.
My puffy for this hike was my Enlightened Equipment Torrid Jacket. It’s very light and very warm. Love it!
My Zpacks Altaplex is the tent I had on this hike. It served me very well as usual. Simple and lightweight is great.
On nearly all of my hikes I have my phone with me with my Kindle app because I like to do a little reading before I go to sleep. I highly recommend the Kindle app and if you like fiction and horror then check out the Dark Island book. #paid promotion
