ULA Equipment Backpacks – FREE US Shipping on ALL Orders!! Happy Trails!
I did this hike twice this year and it was great both times. I’ve included some information below regarding the hike and campsites that pertain to my 7/4/14 thru 7/6/14 hike. The weather was great, not too hot and not too cold and we didn’t get a bit of rain on this trip. We did the Mount Rogers summit trail @ .55 miles and although the summit didn’t offer much of a view, it was pretty cool just being in the dense pine forest. One of the highlights for me on this hike is the Old Orchard Shelter itself and the area surrounding it. It’s nestled in this small park-like valley with several campsites and fire pits already cleared. The only downside is that everyone else in the area knows about this place. Even so, it’s still a great place to camp. We were just prior to prime berry season so we already knew that we were coming back in August to partake in the berry picking.
