My Grand Trunk Nano Hammock….Great Lightweight Option

I love my Grand Trunk Nano-7 Hammock!  I take it on nearly every one of my backpacking trips in the warmer months because of the versatility it provides.  It’s so light and compact that I don’t even notice the additional weight in my backpack.  Weighing in at around 7 ounces, it packs down to about the size of a coke can into its own attached stuff sack and obviously that gives it the ability to fit just about anywhere.  I have some friends who are ultralighters and they would rather not carry the extra half pound (add in another 6 ounces for the Grand Trunk Tree Slings) but for me the weight is nothing compared to the peace of mind and additional options this thing provides.

One thing to consider is that this hammock is small at only 9 feet long and 4 feet wide so it’s not exactly the lap of luxury and I wouldn’t generally take it as my primary sleeping option on a backpacking trip.  I’m sure some smaller people would be perfectly fine using it as their primary hammock or sleeping option.  It’s just not big enough to provide me with the comfort I prefer on a regular basis in the backcountry and I’m far from an ultralight backpacker.  If I’m going that route and leaving the tent at home I’ll bring either my Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Hammock or my ENO ProNest Hammock so I have plenty of room to sprawl out.  But even the ENO Pronest isn’t exactly giant but it’s still bigger than the Grand Trunk Nano Hammock.

As far as I’m concerned the extra 13 ounces of the combined weight of my Nano Hammock and tree slings will be in my pack on every trip as long as I can carry them, lol.   I use Grand Trunk Tree Slings with my Nano Hammock and just stuff the slings in the Nano Hammocks stuff sack.  Works for me!
