CAUTION: I purchased some thinner Du-Bro tubing and installed it but it caught fire and totally burned to dust. In other words, be careful.
I ran across a post in a forum awhile back that had some advice on insulating the handles on your Snow Peak pot handles with some Du-Bro 553 5/32″ Silicone Tubing. I wasn’t sure if it would work or not but I was tired of burning my fingers so I gave it a try and it worked! I’ve previously only installed this tubing on my Snow Peak Titanium Mini Solo Cook Set so I can’t really speak for other brands but as of 1/1/15 I installed some of the tubing on my Snow Peak Trek 900 Titanium Cook Set and it fits just as good as on my Mini Solo cook set.
Now, it is a little tedious to install but once you get it on the handles it stays put really well. I think I might have used a very small amount of dish soap to help install the tubing but the soap dries up soon enough and the tubing is there until you decide to cut it off. I installed the tubing on the side handles pots as well as the small triangular lift handle on the lid.
There are two things about it that some might scoff at, 1) The handles of the pot must be removed so you have to unbend them then bend them back when you put them back on the pot. They will never be bent perfectly the way they were before they were removed from the pot to begin with. 2) The handles won’t fold up against the pot because of the extra thickness of the rubber. Neither one of these things bothered me enough to cut the rubber off the handles so mine are still installed.
CAUTION: I have come to find out that some of the Du-Bro tubing actually catches on fire when exposed to heat so be careful.
I don’t know if this works for other brands of pots or even other Snow Peak pots but it worked for mine.
Yes, the juice is worth the squeeze!
