I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Oboz brand and how good they feel by reading a lot of different reviews. There were a few negative reviews mixed in there too but not very many and the positive comments vastly outnumbered the negative comments by a pretty wide berth so I figured there must be something to this brand that has a pretty good following. I’ve read reviews of various Oboz footwear in Backpacker Magazine as well and they were good reviews so this was influential in my decision too. So, I finally found a pair of Oboz Yellowstone 2 Mid Boots on sale for the right price and pulled the trigger.

I’m always looking for a lighter better fitting shoe or boot and I usually lean toward shoes because they are much more comfortable and lighter in most cases. I figured these would make great winter shoes because they have the extra protection that you get with the mid-height as well as the abundance of leather that usually means more warmth because they don’t breathe as well as mesh.
I did have a few concerns from a few of the less than great reviews about the Oboz footwear in general that I had to get past. Some stated that Oboz tend to run very warm and cause excessive foot sweating. And others stated that some of the treads get torn off – yes literally torn off in big chunks. Either way I knew that sooner or later I would try at least one pair of Oboz footwear out because there were too many great reviews not to try them out.
First Impression: When I first pulled them out of the box I was thoroughly impressed with the light but substantial feel of them right off the bat. The leather looked and felt of very high quality and gave the impression that the boot should weigh more than what it actually weighs. I studied them for a bit and right off the bat the plastic toe cap and molded heel counter give the impression of support.
The second I tried them on I knew I made a good purchase because they felt as if they were made for my feet. These shoes pack substance without being overly heavy so I can’t wait to take them hiking when I finally decide I’m ready to get them dirty that is, lol.
