At 6,621 feet in elevation, Mt. Guyot is the 4th highest point in the Appalachian Mountains, as well as the Eastern United States. It’s also the 2nd highest point in the Smoky Mountains so it’s on the list for peak baggers wanting to check high points off their list. I’ve been wanting to tackle this summit ever since I climbed to Mt. Leconte and I’m finally at the point where I’m proposing it to some friends.
After speaking to a ranger they told me this is a pretty tough hike because the 15.4 mile second day is apparently pretty tough. So I’m postponing it for warmer weather when I can pack lighter and I should be in better shape from doing some trips in the spring.
I did some investigating before proposing a route to some friends in order to pull them in on this one so below is some of the references I got it from and my proposed route.
